Channel Islands “The Pod”

Author: admin May 12, 2010

The Channel Islands “The Pod” is an inspiration in Kelly Slaters’s new surfboards and design direction. The Pod is built to fly. The Pod has deep concaves with a foiled nose and a swallow tail keeps the Pod lively and maintains its high performance. The “snub” nose puts volume forward, allowing for maximum planing and wave catching. The wide, curvy outline makes the Pod friendly for all levels of surfers. A good tip is to ride this board 6” to 8” shorter, about 1 1/2” wider and about 1/8” thicker. This surfboard is designed to be skatey and is great for knee high to head and a half high waves. The Pod comes in quad and thruster fin set ups.

What Surf Gear Do You REALLY Need?

Author: Earl of Curl January 23, 2010

There’s a lot of gear out there for every sport, hobby, and craft. No matter the activity, there are always gearheads to buy it up. What surf gear do you REALLY need for a successful surf session? A board, wetsuit, boots, and wax.

The basic necssities for the job are a surfboard and a wetsuit (and even the suit is optional in some southern waters). In our coastal Oregon waters, you also NEED booties. The minimum thickness required for your suit is 4/3mm and 3mm for boots.

Your board also NEEDS a little prep; wax. Best is a base coat, then cold or cool water wax, then a top coat. But, if you’re a minimalist, the cold/cool wax without top and bottom coats will suffice.
